Darwin is Australia's most northern major city and its proximity to Asia is evident in its bustling night markets and diverse and exciting foodie scene. You'll also find some of the most vibrant examples of aboriginal art and culture in Darwin's many galleries and murals throughout the city. 

There are endless opportunities for adventure seekers, culture connoisseurs and those with a love for the great outdoors. 






Whichever route you choose, or wherever you choose to explore in Darwin our Star RV team is ready to help get you on the road as smoothly as possible. With easy check-in and pick-up, a show through of your vehicle and of course some helpful tips so you can enjoy the freedom of the open road, you'll be in holiday mode before you know it.


Hire a motorhome in Darwin for the best way to explore 

If you’re arriving at Darwin airport, you can use our free shuttle to transfer you to our Darwin branch.

Just call us on  [1800 875 018](tel:1800875018) or [+ 64 9 600 0805](tel:+61883715340), and select option #4, then #4, to request your shuttle ride.

Our shuttle runs on demand during our business hours, and the last shuttle leaves the airport 30 minutes before closing time.

#### Directions

Exit the terminal, head to the Hotels & Off Airport Buses waiting area. Please wait here for your shuttle.
Please note our Darwin branch is closed on Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Good Friday and Australia Day.

**Note:** Our friends at JUCY share their green and purple vans with us for a speedier shuttle service. So, if you see the JUCY van, hop on board for your free airport transfer service.

Airport shuttle

If you flew into Darwin, don’t forget you can get a free shuttle bus to our branch where you pick up your motorhome.

When you get to our branch we’ll spend time with you to get the paperwork completed, show you through the vehicle and provide you will all you need to get on the road as quickly as possible.

**Note:** pick up is during office hours only:

- You can collect your motorhome between the branch opening hours
and 30 minutes before the branch closing time.

Picking up your vehicle

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end but hopefully we’ll see you again soon!

Return your motorhome during business hours, ensuring you give yourself at least 45 minutes before closing to drop off your vehicle.

Before we say goodbye make sure that:

- The fuel tank is full
- Toilet is empty
- Grey water tank is empty
- Vehicle is clean and tidy
- Dishes are clean

If you’re making your way to the airport our last shuttle to the airport leaves at 3.30pm on weekdays, and 1.30pm on weekends. 

#### After hours drop-off

If you need to drop-off after hours, this will need prior approval from Star RV reservations and branch teams. After hours drop-off will incur a $40 additional fee. 

You will need to fill up with the correct fuel to the same level as when you picked up the vehicle and leave a fuel receipt at the branch.

Remove all your items from the vehicle and leave the vehicle tidy. Return the key to the key drop box located outside the branch.

**Note:** You will be fully responsible for any damage to the vehicles or parking fees incurred if dropping off after hours. The damage will not get covered under any excess reduction covers.

## Where to go in Darwin and the Northern Territory 

Darwin, a former frontier outpost, serves as the gateway to the Northern Territory's diverse landscapes and attractions.  

Darwin is the perfect starting point to pick up your motorhome rental to explore the state's stunning national parks, rich Aboriginal culture and charming coastal towns.  

### Darwin and surrounding areas 

Once you've picked up your RV rental from our friendly team near Darwin Airport, it's time to explore Darwin! This tropical city has a strong cultural presence, with the Larrakia people as the Traditional Custodians of Darwin/Gulumerrdgencan. Vibrant Aboriginal art fills Darwin's galleries and museums, and a range of Aboriginal experiences invites you to connect with First Nations culture, art and food.  

Relax into Darwin's balmy nights and colourful personality with a wander through the famous Mindil Beach sunset market. Be tempted by tasty international cuisine from over 60 food stalls and browse the art and craft stalls. Once you've chosen from the huge variety of dishes on offer, enjoy your meal on the beach to catch spectacular sunsets that bathe the Arafura Sea in an orange glow, as fire spinners and street performers entertain the crowd. 

For a taste of the adventure, head to Crocosaurus Cove in the centre of Darwin City! Take a tour of the park to watch huge crocodiles being fed or grab a fishing rod to feed the baby crocs yourself. Brave visitors can even "swim with the crocs" from the safety of a perspex enclosure which lowers you into the water of the crocodile enclosure. 

### Kakadu National Park 

When you're ready to head further afield, it's time to explore the unspoiled majesty of Kakadu National Park. Just a 3-hour drive from Darwin, Kakadu National Park is Australia's largest national park, encompassing almost 20,000 square kilometres of lush rainforest, immense waterfalls, and rugged rock galleries. 

To make the most of Kakadu, embark on one of the many hikes across dramatic landscapes. Search for hidden Aboriginal rock paintings dating back to prehistoric times or take an Aboriginal-lead safari to learn about the park’s six different seasons and unique wildlife from Kakadu’s traditional custodians.  

Adventure seekers can take a crocodile tour, to watch as the Northern Territory's famous wild crocs feed on buffalo meat or take a picnic to Berry Springs waterhole for a swim in the clear, sunlit waters. 

Once you're finished with your day's adventure, relax on a billabong cruise, weaving through serene vistas as the pastel-pink skies are reflected in the wetlands.  

### Alice Springs 

Driving from Darwin to Alice Springs in a motorhome is one of the most iconic journeys you can make across the Northern Territory.  

Winding through memorable locations including the Katherine hot springs, Nitmiluk National Park, the spectacular boulders of Karlu Karlu, and the ancient red monolith of Uluru, you can spend anywhere from sixteen hours to nine days between Darwin and Alice Springs, depending on the stops you make. 

Once you've arrived in Alice Springs, it's time to explore this spirited outback town! Alice Springs is famous for embodying the quintessential Australian experience, from the personality of its locals to the vast ancient desert and Aboriginal culture in its roots. Explore the natural wonders, from Kings Canyon to the Larapinta Trail. 

### National Parks 

With a wealth of incredible national parks to explore, Darwin is a dream for lovers of the outdoors.  

For more awe-inspiring experiences, steer your motorhome towards Litchfield National Park. Just a 1.5-hour drive from Darwin, Litchfield National Park is a favourite with locals, who head there for the cascading waterfalls and pristine swimming holes. 

Mary River National Park is popular with wildlife enthusiasts. An abundance of birdlife thrives here, making it a favourite spot for birdwatchers. Anglers will want to head for Shady camp, just watch out for the crocodiles.

Free camping is discouraged within the council areas of Darwin and Palmerston. There are some free designated campsites outside of the cities including Gunn Point and Robin Creek Falls – both an hours’ drive from Darwin, providing ample opportunities for exploration. Please check the free camping regulations for the area you're visiting.
