There’s something about Western Australia that calls to the adventurer in all of us. The endless roads stretching into the horizon, the raw beauty of rugged coastlines, and the feeling of being completely immersed in nature. Over 11 incredible days, we covered nearly 2000km in our Polaris 2, soaking up every breathtaking view and unforgettable experience along the way.

Day 1: Perth to Wave Rock

Our journey kicked off in Perth, and with excitement in the air, we hit the road towards Wave Rock in Hyden. This natural rock formation is every bit as impressive in person as it is in photos. It was an incredible start to our adventure! We set up camp at Wave Rock Caravan Park for the night, eager for what lay ahead.

Day 2: Hyden to Cape Le Grand National Park

We set out early towards the coast, making a couple of stunning detours on the way to Cape Le Grand National Park. But the real highlight was arriving at Le Grand Beach Campsite! This spot is incredibly popular, so booking in advance is a must.

Day 3: Cape Le Grand National Park to Esperance

We spent the morning soaking in the beauty of Cape Le Grand National Park, hopping between Lucky Bay, Thistle Cove, Whistling Rock, and Cape Le Grand Beach. There was a coffee stall on the beach at Lucky Bay, a perfect place to drink coffee in the morning on one of the most beautiful beaches!

We stayed at Esperance Pink Lake Tourist Park, an excellent site with great facilities.

Day 4: Esperance to Fitzgerald River National Park

We started the day with a delicious coffee from BeanBreak in Esperance, we then made our way to Fitzgerald River National Park. With stops at Four Mile Beach, Barrens Lookout, and Mylies Beach, it was a day filled with stunning landscapes. We spent the night at Hopetoun 48 Hour RV Rest Area, a fantastic free campsite right next to the beach!

Day 5: Hopetoun to Bettys Beach

A big day of driving brought us through the Stirling Range National Park and Porongurup National Park. Here we tackled the Granite Sky Walk and had a blast! We highly recommended it! Bettys Beach Free Campsite turned out to be one of nicest free campsites we stayed at, right on a beautiful sandy beach! There are only 5 spots, and they work on a first come, first served basis, so we recommend securing your spot early.

Day 6: Bettys Beach to Walpole

Our journey led us to some breathtaking stops: Little Beach, Misery Beach, Jimmy Newell’s Lookout, the Blowholes, and Greens Pool. A beer tasting at Boston Brewing Co was the perfect afternoon break before heading to Coalmine Beach Holiday Park. There were kangaroos walking around the campsite which was fun!

Day 7: Walpole to Margaret River

The Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk gave us a magical perspective of the towering trees, while Hamelin Bay Beach was a great spot to see stingrays up close. That night, we stayed at Olive Hill Farm, a very nice campsite where many sheep walk around your camping spot!

Day 8: Margaret River to Peppermint Grove Beach

We visited Margaret River Farmers Market in the morning (a must-do if you’re there on a Saturday!), Surfers Point, and a visit to Vasse Felix Winery made for a deliciously indulgent day. A stop at Indjidup Natural Spa and Canal Rocks left us in awe before we reached Peppermint Grove Beach Holiday Park for the night.

Day 9: Peppermint Grove Beach to Fremantle

The day started with a beach walk before making our way to Preston Beach and the fascinating Lake Clifton Thrombolites. We even found a great local brewery, Thorny Devil Brewery, for a quick refreshment. That night, we stayed at Discovery Parks - Woodman Point, the perfect base for exploring Fremantle and Rottnest Island.

Day 10: Rottnest Island Day Trip

Today we spent the day on Rottnest Island. We were able to park the motorhome in the harbor at Sealink Ferries. We took the early ferry and rented bikes to explore Rottnest Island, one of our favourite experiences of the trip! The highlight was seeing the cute quokkas. It is a beautiful island to cycle around with many beautiful bays!

After returning to the mainland, we spent one more night at Discovery Parks - Woodman Point.

Day 11: Perth

The final day arrived far too quickly. We returned the Polaris 2 to Star RV in Perth before being taken to the airport by the shuttle from the Star RV branch. There’s something special about road-tripping through Western Australia. It’s the kind of trip that stays with you long after you’ve returned home. From the rugged coastlines to the tranquil beaches, every day was filled with new discoveries.
