Our South Island road trip was the perfect way to end our travels. With a few free days between commitments, we decided to tick off some bucket-list spots and explore the breathtaking landscapes between Queenstown and Christchurch. Traveling in a Star RV motorhome gave us the freedom to experience it all at our own pace, with all the comforts we needed along the way.

We started our journey in Queenstown, weaving through the stunning scenery of Glenorchy, the historic charm of Arrowtown, and the peaceful beauty of Wanaka. There is something magical about being on the road, surrounded by the towering mountains and untouched wilderness of the South Island.

The drive through Lindis Pass and onto Lake Pukaki took our breath away. The region’s vastness and untouched beauty left us feeling small but incredibly connected to the world around us. One of our favourite moments happened at Lake Pukaki, where we parked up at a freedom camping spot with the most unreal view of Mount Cook. Watching the sunset from the comfort of our bed, with the sky glowing behind the peaks, was nothing short of magical. That perfect moment cost us nothing but left us with a memory we will treasure forever.

As we carried on exploring Mount Cook, Lake Tekapo, Geraldine, and Christchurch, we felt a growing sense of connection to the land. Each stop reinforced how special Aotearoa is, and we felt so lucky to experience these places together.

This road trip was about so much more than the places we visited. Being out in nature gave us the chance to slow down, reconnect, and remember the importance of protecting the natural beauty around us. The journey left us inspired to continue our conservation work, knowing how vital it is to preserve these incredible places for future generations.
